Once upon a time ... NOMADS SURFING

Il était une fois ... NOMADS SURFING - HawaiiSurf

Nomads Surfing is above all the story of three friends, three surfers, three travelers: Basile, Nicolas, and Thomas.Nomads Founders
Designed for the first time in April 2017, Nomads Surfing took shape in 2018 with a clear goal: create a responsible surf brand, thus eliminating the need to choose between passion and ecology. Because, after all, there is nothing more natural than protecting your playground.

Today, Nomads is a pioneer in Europe, offering a complete range of eco-designed surfboards and accessories, locally made:

  • The surfboards and accessories are made in Portugal and France, within a radius of 800 km around the headquarters (Bordeaux). This approach promotes the local economy while ensuring social conditions that comply with European standards.
  • The production is carried out responsibly, using recycled, recyclable, and/or natural materials in order to minimize their impact on the environment as much as possible.

Nomads Surfing thinks every day about what the surf of tomorrow should be. The team works tirelessly to offer alternatives to surfers, particularly regarding the end of life of products, rental, and second-hand options. The goal is to provide a concrete response to emissions related to the surf industry and more broadly in the sports industry. The brand is present in more than 110 partner stores and even has its own surf shop in Lacanau.

Eco design

Surfboards and classic accessories are mainly made from materials derived from the oil industry, which significantly contributes to pollution. On average, the surf industry generates about 220,000 tons of CO2 per year, thereby worsening its environmental impact. To mitigate this carbon footprint, the brand is committed to sourcing and developing alternative raw materials that help reduce this pollution.

  • Fins : The Nomads fin range is made up of 70% recycled UPSEA fishing nets, a Cradle to Cradle certified material, and reinforced with 30% fiberglass to ensure better durability. Made in France in Clermont-Ferrand at their plastic molding partner, these fins allow you to reduce your CO2 emissions by 50% compared to fins coming from Asia.

Concrete actions

The brand goes even further in its commitment to associations by creating the Nomads Ocean Care endowment fund. This fund raises money from partners to donate to associations engaged in ocean protection.
Faced with the alarming fact of a truckload of plastic being dumped into the ocean every minute, Nomads launched the One Ocean For All movement in 2021. The goal is to bring together all organizations willing to protect the planet by collecting donations to support associations working on the ground.
This is a plastic recycling workshop initiated by Dave Hakkens, coming straight from the Netherlands. Its mission is as follows: To enable the processing of plastic waste and give it a second life using machines that can be built by oneself.
And this time no patent, all the information is available for free online, it is a 100% open source project.

Engagement social

Because there is no climate justice without social justice, Nomads is committed to social projects:

  • Coucou Petite Méduse : A group of Breton surfers who undertake surf trips to remote spots independently, while raising awareness about surfing among children and giving former surfers the opportunity to rekindle their passion. They also distribute equipment in isolated areas, notably in Morocco.
  • The Paddle Paddle Surf Project : This association collects surfboards and accessories to repair them and send them to countries around the world, thereby raising awareness on social and environmental issues through the practice of surfing.
  • Grain de sable : A humanitarian association based in Mérignac, Gironde, which carries out solidarity projects with disadvantaged populations in different countries. They notably collect worn-out flip-flops during their travels and bring them back to France to transform them into new pads.

Nomads Surfing, before being a brand, is above all a community with a mindset focused on strong convictions, committed to fighting global warming and preserving the ocean.
